Maramec Spring Park, nestled in the scenic Ozarks of Missouri, is renowned for its natural beauty, historical significance, and vibrant cultural events. Among these events, Music In The Park stands out as a beloved celebration of music and community. Held annually within the park’s picturesque setting, this event offers a unique opportunity to enjoy live music while surrounded by the tranquil beauty of nature.

One of the defining features of Music on the Maramec is its setting. The performances take place in the open air, often against the backdrop of the park’s sparkling spring-fed waters, lush greenery, and historic landmarks. Maramec Spring itself, Missouri’s fifth-largest spring, provides a serene ambiance that perfectly complements the event’s laid-back vibe. Attendees can spread out blankets or set up lawn chairs, creating a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere that encourages mingling and connection.

In addition to the music, the event often includes food vendors offering local delicacies, craft booths showcasing regional artisans, and interactive activities for children. These elements make Music on the Maramec a full-day outing that appeals to both locals and visitors exploring the park for the first time.

The event also highlights the park’s historical importance. Maramec Spring Park was once home to the Maramec Iron Works, a 19th-century industrial hub. Today, remnants of this era are preserved within the park, blending history with natural beauty. Music on the Maramec often incorporates this heritage, with some performances featuring traditional songs or stories that pay homage to the area’s past.

Music on the Maramec exemplifies how cultural events can enhance the appreciation of natural and historical treasures. Whether you’re a music lover, nature enthusiast, or history buff, this event offers an unforgettable experience that captures the spirit of Maramec Spring Park.

Funky Butt Brass Band, July , 19, 2025, Music on the Maramec

Funky Butt Brass Band, July 19, 2025

The Funky Butt Brass Band was formed in 2008 by six talented musicians who respect and revere the New Orleans brass band tradition. The FBBB takes classic New Orleans brass tunes and gives them a twist, in the style of Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rebirth and Bonerama. But don’t be surprised if you also hear some Minneapolis funk, Southern rock, Memphis soul, Chicago blues and St. Louis R&B in the mix. “For members of the Funky Butt Brass Band from St. Louis, tribute takes the form of a working brass band, and they are nothing if not reverential. These cats can play, and they offer nothing but praise for the traditional brass band. The horns are the key, of course, and they perform admirably.”– Offbeat, New Orleans Music Magazine “The sextet is our hardest working jazz-funk fusion band, and its omnipresence at street parties, festivals, Soulard bars and classy nightclubs remains, after all these years, well worth celebrating. The sound of St. Louis just wouldn’t be the same without them.” – Riverfront Time “Proof that you don’t have to be from, or living in, New Orleans to feel the funk.” – stlblues.net “Its razor-sharp horn section blasts out the sort of punchy stabs that have made thousands of white people dance to Tower of Power, while its unhinged rhythm section recalls the greasy funk that drips from fingers and collects in the gutters of New Orleans. But stellar musicianship and dedication to the craft aren’t the band’s only strengths — more important, the act showcases the playful side missing from many uptight jazz enthusiasts.” – Riverfront Times “FBBB will definitely put a bounce in your step and a smile on your face.” – Blues Blast Magazine

The Kay Brothers, Sept. 20th at 6 pm, Music In The Park, Maramec Spring Park, St. James MO

The Kay Brothers, Sept. 20th

The Kay Brothers are Missouri brothers that formed a band saluting the music traditional to their homeland: The Ozarks… where Old-Time Fiddle music received a quick flash fry of foot stompin’ Country Blues as it made its way across the Mississippi River. The songs are a collection of stories, often ancient in verse but timeless in meaning, and delivered with sunny reverence for this forgotten music bred to uplift from the tangle of struggles in a bygone era. It’s music that draws you out, rather than draw you in.

In 2018, the band released their Self-Titled Debut Album and a companion video for their song, “Find Your Love,” recorded in an abandoned auto garage somewhere in Callaway County. Joined by sisters Emma & Olivia Burney, the band boasts sibling harmonies, upright bass, guitar, tenor banjo, fiddle, cello, ukulele, harmonica, washboard, congas, shakers, and an array of foot percussion. The mission: to preserve the rural music of our forefathers and mothers that once filled the wooden barns dotting the countryside on Saturday night and the small family churches on Sunday morning. That party is still going on…. it’s in your blood.
